CORRESPONDENCE COURSES

The Mission of the Correspondence Department:

The mission of the Correspondence Department of Rio Grande Bible Institute is the preparation, support, and encouragement of Latin American believers who seek to serve the Lord more effectively.

The Courses exist to:
  • Make study possible for those who have limited economic means or who cannot leave their responsibilities to come to the RGBI campus.
  • Provide opportunities for personal growth to self-taught Christians such as teachers in Sunday school, and for local Bible institutes.
  • Aid churches as they train their members for the ministry.

Rio Grande Bible Institute is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (formerly the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges). Courses may be taken for credit or for one's own benefit on a not-for-credit basis.

For non-accredited level courses, the homework load is reduced and additional textbooks are not required.

Who May Enroll as a Student?

Students who have finished high school may enroll in level 1, the accredited level. Anyone may enroll in level 2, the unaccredited level.

What is Necessary to Register?

Registration requires completion of the application form and payment of fees. Fees may be paid in cash*, personal checks, money order, or by Visa credit card. (*Do not send cash in the mail.)

What About the Materials?

The materials will be sent in a package that includes the notes, videos, DVDs or audio cassettes, textbooks, tests, reviews for the tests, and a syllabus.

Because we encourage extensive reading, a bibliography may be included with the syllabus.

We understand that there are remote areas where these books are not available.

From the time that the materials are sent, the student has one year to finish the course. The student may petition an extension, for which there is a charge (see "May the Student Request an Extension?" below).

How Does One Complete the Course?

We recommend that the student send the assignments as soon as they are finished.

Exams

The courses include exams. The test will come in a sealed envelope, which should be opened in the presence of a pastor or other person who will supervise the exam.

May the Student Ask Questions?

If there is a problem the student may call us at the following numbers: (956) 380 8140 & (956) 380 8100, or may send a fax to: (956) 380 8101. The e-mail address is Cursos@riogrande.edu

What About the Final Grade?

After finishing the course material and the final test, the student will receive the final grade. After finishing a course, the student may request another course. We will send a list of courses available with the final grade. As new courses are available, we will add them to the list. We welcome the student's comments regarding the courses.

How Much do the Courses Cost?

The cost to enroll is $20.00 (US) for the accredited level. The cost of the non-accredited level is $15.00 (US). This does not cover the cost of the text books.

The cost of books and videos varies, depending on the course. We offer the needed texts at a competitive price. The cost of mailing is $10.00 (US) within North America. Please contact the Correspondence Course Department for mailing costs outside North America.

We offer a "pay-as-you-go" plan for those studying by video or DVD. The first payment is $40 (US), the cost being determined by the number of parts in the series. As the payments are received, the videos are sent. The courses have three to six videos or DVDs, so there may be three to six payments in total.

What Happens if the Student Cannot Finish a Course?

If a student cannot finish a course and would like a full refund, including postage, he must return the materials within one month of the date we mailed the course.  If he wishes to keep the books, we will return the registration fees only.

May the Student Request an Extension?

If after a year the student has not finished the course, he may petition an extension at the cost of $15.00 (US). A three-month extension will be granted to finish the course.

May a Student Begin the Same Course a Second Time?

We encourage our students to re-enroll in the courses that they have not finished. One year (from the date of re-enrolling) is allowed to finish the work, and the registration fee will again be required.
